The Purpose of the Business Women’s Mega Mixer is to honor women who have excelled in their fields and made significant contributions to industry in executive, managerial, and professional roles.
Women Making History Honoree Nomination
Each participating professional women’s organization is eligible to nominate a member for each of the below awards. A review committee of local professionals and volunteers will review all nominations for the WMH Awards. The committee seeks women with demonstrated leadership and exceptional talent in supervisory or professional roles who have obtained a significant level of achievement within their industry. Each nomination is evaluated on its own merit based on the credentials submitted and in adherence to the standards established by the BWMM committee. Therefore, careful completion of this nomination form is critical.
One woman in each category will be recognized at the Business Women’s Mega Mixer on Thursday, March 22nd.

WOMEN MAKING HISTORY AWARD CATEGORIES
Each organization may nominate one member in each category
Anita Roddick – Entrepreneur Award – Founder of the Body Shop
The spirit of the Anita Roddick – Entrepreneur Award is to recognize a female entrepreneur that has a history of outstanding business practices in the San Diego community. This award recognizes exceptional performance in starting and building a successful business.
Criteria for judging:
- Entrepreneur must be the sole founder or partner
- Show evidence of business growth and profitability for the last three years
- Be locally owned and privately held
- Must be a for-profit venture
Debra Reed – Business Leader Award – CEO of Sempra Energy
The spirit of the Debra Reed – Business Leader Award is to recognize an individual who have demonstrated leadership qualities that rise above the norm. This female inspires others through outstanding performance and by leading through example in their chosen field of expertise.
Criteria for judging:
- Must show qualities in leadership that rise above normal expectations
- Have a significant track record of performance and growth
- Show evidence of outstanding leadership principles through ethical practices
Amelia Earhart – Innovator Award – First woman to fly solo across the Atlantic
The spirit of the Amelia Earhart – Innovator Award is to recognize an individual who exemplify determination, perseverance and innovation through their career and/or business. This professional woman or business owner has achieved extraordinary results or recognition through unique inventions or processes.
Criteria for judging:
- Must show unique outcomes through innovation
- Be in the position or business for a minimum of 3 years
- Show evidence of unique inventions or processes
Eleanor Roosevelt – Hero Award – Political activist supporting women’s rights
The spirit of the Eleanor Roosevelt – Hero Award is to recognize an individual who shows dedication, commitment and results to improving the lives of women. This female professional is a role model to the next generation of business women.
Criteria for judging:
- Show evidence of results supporting the advancement of the lives of women
- Achievement should have taken place in the last year
Ursula Burns – Diversity Award – CEO of Xerox
The Ursula Burns – Diversity Award is to recognize an individual or company who inspires and shows commitment to success through diversity. They have exhibited visionary and insightful leadership to confront and resolve inequities through strategic decision-making, allocation of resources, and establishment of priorities.
Criteria for judging:
- Must show evidence of unique programs or initiatives supporting diversity in the workplace
- Recipient may be an individual or company
